5 craft projects you can make in your free time 

Even though we’re always kept busy by work or school, one might worry that you could get bored and unproductive during the weekends or your free time. You might even feel that you want to stay as busy as possible.

There’s nothing wrong with that, as it’s always a good idea to keep yourself engaged—you never know when your productivity might come in handy. Here are five ideas for crafts to do:

1.    DIY projects

Are you a fan of little inventions and innovations? You might like to try doing DIY projects at home, which is a wide category of small carpentry, repairing, and even engineering projects that aren’t too difficult. There’s a DIY project for every interest and need, and basic skills that you pick up here may go a long way in other places.

While this isn’t a traditional craft project in the sense of the term, a little programming and coding know-how may be beneficial for future career projects. You can start with developing websites, maybe even a small app, and if you get into it long enough, you could even craft some useful hardware and software.

3.    Leatherworking

Want a skill that you could turn into a business? Leather goods are always in style, so it’s not a bad idea to try your hand at leatherworking. You’ll need quite a few tools and materials to get started, but it’s not too difficult to find—once you get going, you’ll likely create some beautiful things that many people may want.

4.    Scentmaking

One craft that isn’t very difficult to do is the art of making scents, whether it’s for perfume or for household use. All you need are the oils that make up the scents and bottles to mix them in, and you have your own homemade fragrances. What’s even better is this can also be a home business, as who doesn’t like to smell good?

5.    Sewing

Bea Alonzo, Alden Richards lead the search for the next Century Tuna Superbods 2022

 

This year's Century Tuna Superbods 2022 with a campaign message of, "Stay strong Love strong", has presented the 32 Finalists consisting of 16 Female and 16 Male aspiring individuals to be the next superbods during the exciting VIP Night graced by no less than Superbods celebrity ambassadors Bea Alonzo and Alden Richards.

Held last June 3, 2022 at Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila, the official venue partner for this year’s competition, the event provided the opportunity for Bea and Alden to share their inspiring stories related to this year’s Century Tuna Superbods campaign message.

“I’ve heard the stories of this year’s Superbods finalists and they are truly amazing!” enthuses Bea. “They’re proof that we can achieve a lot of things and overcome so many obstacles for the people we love. I salute this year’s finalists and wish them the best of luck in their Superbods journey.”

Just like Bea, Alden also shares his excitement for this year’s competition. “Beyond the buff body and firm and flat abs, it’s truly awesome what we can achieve when we are physically and mentally strong. Hosted by Sam YG and Gelli Victor, the event was attended by select media and partners of Century Tuna who were treated to a special Century Tuna menu prepared by an internationally acclaimed and first-ever Filipina executive chef in a five-star international branded hotel in the Philippines Chef Bettina Margaret Arguelles.

It was also the opportunity for members of the media to have a personal encounter with the finalists through one-on-one interviews, where they shared their personal stories on the competition theme “Stay strong to Love strong” which aims to uplift and encourage everyone to stay strong despite the challenges and to become better versions of themselves.

“As we are all recovering from the pandemic, we need inspiring stories that give us strength to move forward,” said Century Pacific Food Inc. From the press presentation, the finalists will undergo a series of digital challenges that will be posted on the Century Tuna Superbods official Facebook page and can be searched using the official #CenturyTunaSuperbods2022.

These challenges will lead up to the finals night happening on July 13, 2022 where two grand winners will receive PHP500,000 each while the two runners-up will receive ₱200,000.00 each, tax-free. All four winners will also get a year’s worth of Century Tuna products and other exciting prizes.

Strengthening the SAFEwash Movement: Safeguard provides PHP 5 million worth of products to schools

Procter & Gamble is equipping public schools with handwashing facilities and Safeguard products to further promote the Wash in Schools initiative.

Procter & Gamble’s Safeguard, Manila Water Foundation, and the DepEd School District representatives gathered last May 4, 2022 in Microtel by Wyndham Hotel in Quezon City to take the SAFEwash Movement to new heights. Present in the turnover event were Jeune San Juan from P&G Safeguard, the Manila Water Foundation representatives led by Reginald Andal, and DepEd School Division Heads from the 17 partner locations.

The event is Safeguard and Manila Water Foundation’s way of further strengthening the SAFEwash Movement’s goal – to protect the future of the Philippines by protecting the teachers who hone it. On top of donating for pilot face-to-face classes, Safeguard Philippines donated PHP 5million more worth of hand soaps and sanitizers to partner schools.

In acknowledging teachers as frontliners, P&G Communications Leader Jeune San Juan said that “This time around, however, we realized that it’s about time to recognize the new frontliners as we open up the country once again. In line with our mission to help protect frontliners, we are also extending our support to our dearest educators, who are also frontliners in education and in many other ways.”

As school reopenings near, the attendees reviewed the safety guidelines and handwashing protocols that the schools will be implementing for the safety of the teachers, students, and the entire school community.

“We have placed priority in providing handwashing facilities to 285 schools across the country. With this, we are extending our support by providing 5 million worth of hygiene products as the classes start and schools are used for other national activities, so that teachers are safeguarded from infectious germs that can cause diseases,” says Jeune San Juan.

With active participation coming from the partner school districts and the continuous efforts of Safeguard, our SAFEwash Movement will push us closer to a safe reopening of schools so we can continue honing the future of the country.

Medical expert shares ways to stay healthy and protected from the virus

 

Just like that, summer is over, which could only mean one thing: flu season is just around the corner.

As COVID-19 lockdown restrictions continue to loosen up, people are taking the opportunity to go out more often. Many have gone back to work. There are even schools in some areas that have returned to face-to-face classes.

While we are currently feeling the heat of summer, the rainy season will soon take over. It has been observed that during this wet period the highest cases of flu are being recorded.

“After going through waves of a grueling pandemic, taking millions of people by surprise, the last thing we need is to head on to a flu season unarmed. As early as now, we must be ready and prepare for any and all eventuality,” said Dr. Donald Josue, Vaccines Medical Director at GSK.

To make sure the flu virus doesn’t catch you off guard, here are some of the measures you can do today to prepare for the upcoming flu season:

Update your flu vaccines

Making sure you get your updated flu vaccines significantly lowers the risk of contracting the virus. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) a flu shot is recommended annually to ensure individuals are protected from the latest flu virus strains.

Be mindful of social distancing

Because of much relaxed restrictions, it’s easy to forget that we are still very much in the middle of a pandemic. This means we should continue practicing social distancing whenever possible. Just like the virus that causes COVID-19, wearing face masks, keeping a distance from other people, or avoiding going to crowded places are few of the easiest, simplest ways to lessen the chances of catching the flu virus.

Keep your immune system in shape with a healthy diet

According to the Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI), you can boost your resistance by having a balanced diet and maintaining an active lifestyle. By giving your body the right nutrients and exercising regularly, you allow your immune system to perform at peak physical condition. This, in turn, enables your body to resist any symptoms that may arise.

Flu vs COVID-19 symptoms

The flu and COVID-19 share many similar symptoms, which makes it easy to confuse both of them. First thing to do should you feel anything untoward is to not panic. Both flu and COVID-19 can have fever, colds, and cough as symptoms. But the latter can also cause fatigue, loss of smell, and loss of taste. Always consult with a medical professional to make sure you get the proper diagnosis and treatment.

This flu season, make sure you’ve got the leg up against the flu virus. Remember to wash your hands regularly, boost your immune system, avoid large crowds, and get that flu vaccine as soon as possible, because keeping yourself safe is the first step to making sure your loved ones and the community you live in are safe too.
